Angelic Troublemakers, Tactical Deviants
Stormé DeLarverie (1920-2014), pronounced "Storm," was a biracial, lesbian, non-binary individual born in New Orleans. From 1955 to 1969, DeLarverie was the MC (and only drag king) of the Jewel Box Revue, North America's first racially integrated drag revue, harking back to her early life as a performer. She performed with the Ringling Brothers Circus as a teenager, riding jumping horses. DeLarverie was dedicated to supporting the LGBTQIA+ community. "She literally walked the streets of downtown Manhattan like a gay superhero" on the lookout for any form of intolerance, bullying, or abuse of her "baby girls," said DeLarverie's obituary in The New York Times. In 2000, she received a Lifetime Achievement Award from SAGE.
