David Rios Ferreira: Transcending Time and Space
Featuring work and writing by artist Denae Shanidiin Transcending Time and Space merged science fiction with cultural and spiritual traditions to explore love, loss, memory, and connection.
Created in collaboration with Denae Shanidiin and Restoring Ancestral Winds, the exhibition responds to the ongoing tragedy of missing and murdered Indigenous people. Through abstract drawings, collages, photographs, and video, the works imagine gateways and portals—spaces through which we might connect with those we have lost, miss across distance, or have yet to meet.
Presented in the Utah Museum of Fine Arts’ Art. Community. Museum. Education (ACME) Lab, the exhibition invited visitors of all ages to explore community art-making, imagined time travel, and spirituality while creating connections across history, culture, and personal experience.
